With the hope to captivate a greater share in the entertainment market in Asia, streaming giant Netflix announced 17 original shows that will release over the next year.
The video on demand platform used the second night of its See What’s Next: Asia content gathering in Singapore to unveil eight new original films for its India market, including a regional release for Bleecker Street, Hotel Mumbai, sports drama Selection Day, Leila directed by Deepa Mehta, adaptations of books Midnight’s Children and Bard of Blood and Baahubali: Before the Beginning, a spin-off of the iconic film franchise, apart from a feature film Rajma Chawal directed by Leena Yadav.
There is massive anticipation surrounding Deepa Mehta's 'Leila' as she unveiled her protagonist, powerhouse performer Huma Qureshi and Siddharth Suryanarayan in leading roles.
Leila, adapted from the novel by writer and executive producer Urmi Juvekar, is set in the near future and tells the story of a mother’s search for her daughter, from whom she was separated 16 years ago.
Netflix believes that the show represents the tremendous diversity that Indian storytelling holds for a global audience.
Huma Qureshi took to her social media platform to express her excitement. She said, "As you can see ...
