H. E. Peter Cook, British Deputy High Commissioner, to State of Gujarat and Rajasthan visits 'Dholera'
Gandhinagar: British Deputy High Commissioner to the State of Gujarat and Rajasthan, H. E. Peter Cook, on his visit this week to ‘Dholera’ interacted briefly with the officials and the infrastructure delegations of the UK given investing in India’s largest Greenfield smart city.
“Dholera”, notably being South Asia’s largest land parcel, is strategically located on the upcoming global integrated multi-modal logistics hub of ‘Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor’. The Greenfield industrial smart city articulated its numerous initiatives which will significantly benefit the potential businesses and commence a host of investment opportunities in the vibrant economic corridor to the deputy high commissioner. Officials at Dholera demonstrated the role of the special investment region in the economic scenario of the state and also its contribution towards the country to his Excellency.
Shri Hareet Shukla, IAS, Managing Director, Dholera Industrial City Development Ltd (DICDL) said “We welcome H.E. Peter Cook, British Deputy High Commissioner, Ahmadabad, to Dholera and thank him for his wonderful industry insights. Dholera is likely to be an international investment destination for Defence, Manufacturing, Heavy Engineering, Auto and Auto ancillary, Pharma & Biotech, Agro and Food Processing, and many more industries, which will play as an aggregator to the economic growth of India”.
The visit emphasized the growth trajectory of the Greenfield Industrial smart city’s operational efficiency and various initiatives implemented to promote Ease of Doing Business & adoption of technology to improve the efficiency and quality of business at Dholera.
Speaking during the visit, H. E. Peter Cook, British Deputy High Commissioner Ahmadabad, said “It’s quite interesting to visit Dholera and explore mutually beneficial opportunities. There is a lot of potential in Dholera wherein the UK industry will be interested. We will surely take this forward with further discussions with the industry officials in the UK. Dholera is the first Greenfield Industrial City which is being established to meet the requirements of Industry 4.0. The establishment of such a Special Investment Region will further accelerate its holistic development and make Gujarat a pioneer in a Manufacturing Driven Economy”.
H. E. Peter Cook, before his stint in Ahmadabad as the British Deputy High Commissioner to Gujarat and Rajasthan, served as the Managing Director of the British Chamber of Commerce in Qatar, and has a long and varied career with the UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO), having served as Consul General and Director of Trade in Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. He was earlier Deputy Consul General Istanbul and Deputy Director of Trade and Investment in Turkey. He has also served in Denmark, Barbados, Qatar, Guyana, and the UK Mission to the UN in New York.
With its robust infrastructure, Dholera has already become a key location for massive business as well as urban development and is slated to become a model Greenfield industrial smart city. In the coming days, Dholera Industrial City can be a superlative choice for national as well as global companies looking to expand in the Indian markets as the region is envisioned to be a building block of global Gujarat.
