India Eyes Global Leadership in MMF Textiles: MATEXIL Hosts Annual Export Award Function

Mumbai: The global textile industry is witnessing a shift from natural fibres to Manmade Fibre (MMF) textiles, driven by cost-effectiveness and innovation. Recognizing this trend, MATEXIL—The Manmade and Technical Textiles Export Promotion Council—successfully hosted its Annual Export Award Function in Mumbai, celebrating excellence in textile exports for FY 2023-24.

Shri Giriraj Singh, Hon’ble Union Minister of Textiles, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, emphasizing the need for R&D, innovation, and sustainable manufacturing practices in the MMF sector. “To position India as a global leader in MMF and Technical Textiles, we must focus on green manufacturing and create a business-friendly ecosystem,” he stated.

A major highlight of the event was the launch of MATEXIL's new Website and Trade Dashboard, aimed at providing key market insights for the industry. Shri Singh lauded this initiative, emphasizing the role of data in shaping policies and achieving India’s ambitious USD 100 billion textile export target by 2030.

Addressing industry challenges, MATEXIL Chairman Shri Bhadresh Dodhia highlighted the growing demand for sustainable and recyclable textiles. He called for strategic partnerships with global MMF leaders to bridge the skill and technology gap in processing and finishing. “Upgrading and automating technology is crucial for aligning Indian MMF Textiles with international standards,” he noted.

The event concluded with the presentation of around 50 awards to top-performing exporters, including industry giants Reliance Industries, Grasim Industries, D'Décor Exports, Sangam India, Vardhman Textiles, RSWM Limited, and Banswara Syntex.

Shri Shaleen Toshniwal, Vice-Chairman of MATEXIL, reaffirmed the significance of these awards in motivating businesses to expand globally. “Recognizing excellence inspires industry players to push boundaries and strengthen India’s position in the global MMF market,” he said.

With a focus on sustainability, innovation, and policy support, India’s MMF sector is poised for significant growth, positioning itself as a global leader in the coming years.
