New Delhi: What began as a touching tale of a “blended family living in harmony” has spiraled into a legal and emotional storm surrounding the late industrialist Sunjay Kapur's ₹30,000-crore empire.
In a May episode of her podcast Kin & Kindness titled Blended Family – Pure Love w/ Priya S Kapur, Priya Kapur painted a picture of familial warmth, saying, “Karisma has joined us on dinners and family vacations and has also been a part of our New Year card.”
But fast-forward to September, and the narrative took a dramatic turn in the Delhi High Court. In a stunning reversal, Priya claimed that Karisma Kapoor had been “absent for 15 years,” with little to no contact between their families. Her counsel, Rajiv Nayyar, further stated in court, “Please have sympathy for a man who died while playing polo. Your husband and you left each other years ago. You were nowhere to be seen for the last 15 years.”
The contradiction between Priya's own words on her podcast and her courtroom claims has sparked widespread scrutiny, adding yet another layer of intrigue to the ongoing battle over the Kapur family’s vast fortune.
While the podcast portrayed unity and emotional connection, Priya's courtroom stance has been anything but harmonious. Her insistence on setting up a “confidentiality club”—involving NDAs and secrecy agreements—was rejected by the court, though certain documents were allowed to be submitted in sealed covers. The push for confidentiality has only fueled speculation over what Priya might be attempting to keep under wraps.
The controversy deepened further after Mandhira Kapur, Sunjay's sister, gave a blistering tell-all interview on a popular podcast, casting doubt on the events leading to her brother’s sudden death during a polo match.
Adding to the confusion is the resurfacing of the infamous “bee sting” rumor, which dominated headlines following Sunjay’s death in June before being dismissed by the official Surrey Coroner’s report.
From a carefully curated image of blended family bliss to courtroom contradictions and secrecy clauses, the Kapur family saga continues to unfold like a gripping drama—raising uncomfortable questions:
Is the “bee sting” controversy just the beginning?
Why the relentless insistence on NDAs?
And most crucially—what is Priya Kapur trying to hide?
