NMIMS Launches ‘NMIMS Horizon’ to Equip 40,000 Students with AI and Future-Ready Skills

Mumbai: As Artificial Intelligence (AI) continues to reshape industries and redefine workforce requirements, SVKM's Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) has unveiled NMIMS Horizon, a university-wide initiative aimed at preparing students for the demands of an AI-driven economy. Developed in collaboration with Coursera, the programme will provide nearly 40,000 students across NMIMS campuses with access to AI-enabled learning pathways, globally recognised certifications, and industry-relevant skill development opportunities integrated into their academic curriculum.

The initiative reflects NMIMS' commitment to transforming higher education by embedding future-ready skills into mainstream academic programmes. With businesses increasingly seeking graduates who possess expertise in AI, data analytics, machine learning, and digital technologies, NMIMS Horizon is designed to bridge the gap between traditional classroom education and evolving industry expectations.

Through the programme, students will gain access to a wide range of Coursera courses covering Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Analytics, Digital Transformation, and other emerging technologies. These carefully curated learning pathways complement existing academic programmes while helping students develop practical, job-ready skills that align with the needs of employers across industries.

Unlike conventional online certification programmes, NMIMS Horizon integrates Coursera learning directly into the university curriculum. The courses form a mandatory component of the student learning experience and are faculty-guided, assessment-linked, and tailored to individual academic programmes. Students will also earn globally recognised certifications from leading international universities and industry partners, enhancing both their academic credentials and employability.

Speaking on the launch, Dr. Chandrima Sikdar, Professor and Dean – Academics and Learning Experience, SBM, NMIMS, said universities today have a responsibility to prepare students not only with academic knowledge but also with the adaptability and technological skills required for the future workplace. She noted that AI, technology, and data are becoming integral to every profession, making continuous learning and future-focused education essential. According to her, NMIMS Horizon provides students with globally relevant learning opportunities that strengthen career readiness while complementing classroom education.

Dr. Sharad Mhaiskar, Provost (Administration), NMIMS, highlighted that the future workforce will be defined by the ability to learn continuously, adapt to technological change, and work alongside emerging technologies. He said universities must evolve ahead of industry trends, and NMIMS Horizon has been designed to embed AI literacy, digital competencies, and global learning opportunities into every student's educational journey.

One of the distinguishing features of the initiative is its scale. With approximately 40,000 student licences deployed across the university, NMIMS Horizon is among the largest AI and future-skills learning initiatives introduced by an Indian higher education institution. The university has fully funded the programme, ensuring students receive access to premium global learning resources and internationally recognised certifications without any additional financial cost.

As AI adoption accelerates across sectors ranging from finance and healthcare to manufacturing and education, initiatives such as NMIMS Horizon are expected to play a crucial role in preparing graduates with the technical expertise and adaptability needed for future careers. By integrating global learning platforms with classroom education, NMIMS aims to create a workforce that is not only academically accomplished but also equipped with practical digital skills, positioning its students for success in an increasingly technology-driven global economy.
