Gleneagles Hospital Mumbai Launches Advanced Robotic-Assisted Surgery for Knee and Hip Replacementsl

Mumbai: In a landmark advancement for orthopaedic care in India, Gleneagles Hospital, Parel, has launched its state-of-the-art robotic-assisted surgery program for knee and hip replacements, reaffirming its commitment to innovation, surgical precision, and world-class patient outcomes.

This transformative technology allows surgeons to perform joint replacement procedures with unparalleled accuracy, significantly reducing recovery time and improving long-term results. By integrating advanced imaging, real-time navigation, and patient-specific planning, the robotic system ensures enhanced safety and efficacy during surgery.

The program is led by a team of eminent orthopaedic specialists, including Dr. Anup Khatri, Dr. Girish Bhalerao, Dr. Shridhar Archik, Dr. S. V. Vaidya, and Dr. Neelkanth Dhamnaskar, all recognized leaders in their field.

“Our goal is to combine medical excellence with cutting-edge technology to deliver the best possible outcomes. Robotic-assisted surgery is a powerful tool that enhances both precision and patient confidence,” said Dr. Girish L. Bhalerao.

One of the first success stories from the robotic surgery program is Mr. Bharat Chauhan, an 80-year-old patient who had been suffering from severe joint pain for over 15 years. On May 27, 2025, he underwent a robotic knee replacement at Gleneagles.

“I was terrified about surgery, but the pain had become unbearable. The day after surgery, I was pain-free and walking again. It feels like a new lease on life,” said Mr. Chauhan, who was discharged within a week of the procedure.

Another patient, 40-year-old Sandhya Singh from Virar, underwent robotic surgery on her right leg following severe ligament damage from a fall, while her left leg received conventional surgery.

“The robotic-assisted procedure made a noticeable difference in my recovery. I’m regaining stability and mobility much faster,” said Sandhya, crediting Dr. Girish Bhalerao and the Gleneagles team for her swift progress.

Dr. Bipin Chevale, CEO of Gleneagles Hospital, Parel, emphasized the hospital’s patient-first approach: “Our mission is to bring world-class healthcare to Mumbai and beyond. Robotic technology helps us enhance surgical precision, reduce blood loss, and minimize soft tissue damage. The success stories of Mr. Chauhan and Ms. Singh are just the beginning of what we can achieve.”

With the launch of this robotic surgery program, Gleneagles Hospital Parel continues to lead the evolution of orthopaedic care in India, delivering personalized, precise, and minimally invasive treatment that empowers patients to reclaim their mobility and quality of life faster than ever before.
