Inflection Point Ventures Launches Free Accreditation Support for Angel Investors Under SEBI Framework

Gurugram: Early-stage angel investing platform "Inflection Point Ventures" (IPV) has announced the launch of a structured initiative to help investors obtain SEBI-mandated angel investor accreditation, offering end-to-end facilitation free of cost for individuals who take IPV membership.

The move comes in response to the Securities and Exchange Board of India’s (SEBI) updated regulatory framework, which now mandates investor accreditation for individuals looking to invest in startups. As per the guidelines, prospective angel investors must obtain accreditation from a SEBI-recognised agency such as NSDL or CVL. The compliance deadline has been set for 7 September, after which only accredited investors will be permitted to participate in startup investments.

Upon successful completion of the process, investors receive an Angel Investor Accreditation Certificate, valid for two or three years, depending on their selected tenure. While the regulation is aimed at strengthening transparency and investor protection, it is expected to significantly impact the early-stage startup ecosystem by narrowing the pool of eligible investors.

Currently, CVL, one of the leading accreditation agencies, has fewer than 1,500 accredited investors. With stricter eligibility and procedural requirements, industry stakeholders have raised concerns that the accreditation mandate could slow down early-stage deal flow and reduce participation from new angel investors.

IPV’s newly launched initiative aims to address this challenge by enabling a smooth and guided transition for investors. The platform is offering comprehensive support across the accreditation journey, including eligibility assessment, documentation assistance, verification processes, and coordination with SEBI-recognised accreditation agencies. Eligible investors taking IPV membership can avail of this facilitation at no additional cost, subject to meeting regulatory criteria.

Commenting on the development, Vinay Bansal, Founder, Inflection Point Ventures, said, “The introduction of investor accreditation by SEBI is a major regulatory development for the early-stage investment ecosystem. While it brings new considerations for both investors and startups, we believe it is our responsibility as one of India’s largest angel investing platforms to support the intent of the regulation and help our investor community navigate this transition smoothly.”

The initiative is designed to ensure continuity for long-term angel investors, while aligning with SEBI’s evolving compliance requirements. By reducing procedural friction and simplifying access to accreditation, IPV aims to safeguard momentum in early-stage investments and minimise disruption across India’s broader venture capital and startup ecosystem.

Investors already associated with IPV can connect with their Relationship Managers for personalised guidance, while prospective investors can access further details through IPV’s official website and verified communication channels.

As India’s startup landscape continues to mature, initiatives like these are expected to play a crucial role in balancing regulatory compliance with sustained capital flow into innovation-driven enterprises.
