Godrej's Goodknight Debuts India’s First Patented Mosquito Repellent Molecule

Mumbai: In a landmark achievement, "Godrej Consumer Products Ltd" (GCPL) has developed 'Renofluthrin', India's first indigenously designed and patented molecule for mosquito control. This innovation promises to revolutionize mosquito repellents with the most effective liquid vapouriser formulation available in the market.

Renofluthrin formulations have proven to be twice as effective against mosquitoes compared to other registered formulations in India. The ‘Central Insecticide Board and Registration Committee’ (CIB&RC) has rigorously tested and approved these formulations, affirming their efficacy and safety. 'GCPL', a leader in household insecticides, is launching the new molecule in its 'Goodknight Flash liquid vapouriser', which is now India’s most efficacious vapouriser.

With more than 15 years since the last innovation in this field, the need for new, effective mosquito repellent formulations has been critical. Many have turned to highly potent but unregistered repellent formats, such as incense sticks containing illegal Chinese-developed molecules. GCPL's extensive R&D over the past decade has led to the creation of Renofluthrin, addressing this gap with a safe, effective, and locally developed solution.

Sudhir Sitapati, MD & CEO of GCPL, highlighted the significance of this breakthrough: “With a 127-year legacy of innovation, Godrej has introduced many homegrown innovations in India. We observed the widespread use of mosquito repellents like incense sticks containing unregistered and illegal Chinese molecules. Renofluthrin is India’s first indigenously developed mosquito repellent molecule, deterring the use of illegal products. This innovation makes India self-reliant, eliminating the need to import molecules from international markets. Renofluthrin is effective against common mosquito species such as Anopheles, Aedes, and Culex.”

Dr. Samir Dalwai, a prominent Developmental Pediatrician and Senior Member of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP), emphasized the importance of effective mosquito control: "Mosquito-borne diseases like malaria and dengue pose severe health risks and economic burdens. Effective protection against mosquitoes is crucial. New molecules like Renofluthrin will significantly curb mosquito-borne diseases. Its broad-spectrum efficacy, instant knock-down effect, and residual protection make it a formidable tool in reducing mosquito populations and disease transmission."

Research by Goodknight reveals that 63% of Indians prioritize liquid vapourisers for mosquito protection. In response, GCPL is introducing Renofluthrin in the 'Goodknight Flash liquid vapouriser'. This product drives away mosquitoes twice as fast and provides two hours of protection even after being switched off.

Sitapati further added, “GCPL enjoys exclusivity to use this patented Renofluthrin molecule in the medium term. This makes Goodknight Flash liquid vapouriser formulation 2X more effective than any other formulation available in the market. While Renofluthrin will be in India for now, we foresee great potential for this molecule in international markets where we operate.”

The 'Goodknight Flash liquid vapouriser' is economically priced at approximately INR 100 for the complete pack (refill + vapouriser machine), with refills available at just INR 85 each, making it accessible to consumers in small urban cities, towns, and rural areas across the country.
