Malabar Group Expands ‘Hunger-Free World’ Initiative as Shri Piyush Goyal Inaugurates Food Distribution Program

Mumbai: Honourable Minister Shri Piyush Goyal inaugurated Malabar Group's latest food distribution initiative at Shatabdi Hospital, Kandivali, which will provide 500 nutritious meals daily to patient families at the hospital. This initiative ensures that families dealing with medical challenges receive necessary nutrition during difficult times.

This project is part of the Malabar Charitable Trust's broader efforts in Maharashtra, where 6,300 food packets are already distributed daily. With the new initiative, the total distribution in the state has increased to 6,800 meals daily, benefiting vulnerable communities across Maharashtra.

The initiative falls under the larger “Hunger-Free World” programme, a corporate social responsibility (CSR) effort by Malabar Group aimed at tackling hunger and malnutrition. Overall, Malabar Group now distributes over 60,000 food packets daily, with 50,000 meals served across 16 Indian states and 10,000 meals daily in Zambia, focusing on schoolchildren and underserved communities.

As the world’s sixth-largest jewellery retailer, Malabar Group integrates social responsibility into its core values. The Hunger-Free World programme not only provides meals but also incorporates educational initiatives. 247 Micro-Learning Centers (MLCs) have been established to provide basic education to over 11,000 underprivileged children in India, facilitating their transition to formal schooling while ensuring their nutritional needs are met.

At the inauguration, MP Ahammed, Chairman of Malabar Group, highlighted the significance of the programme, stating, "By extending our Hunger-Free World initiative to Shatabdi Hospital, we continue our mission of improving lives through food security. We are proud to serve 60,000 meals daily in India and Zambia, while also supporting education for underprivileged children."

The Hunger-Free World initiative is implemented in collaboration with the NGO 'Thanal–Daya Rehabilitation Trust' and aligns with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal 2 - 'Zero Hunger'.

Malabar Group's broader CSR efforts also include the ‘Grandma Home’ project for orphaned elderly women, medical care funding, educational support for girls, and housing assistance for the underprivileged. The Group contributes 5% of its profits from all business verticals, including Malabar Gold & Diamonds, to social welfare initiatives, having invested Rs 263 crore in these projects so far.
