Press Conference Demands Justice for Dr. Asha Goel’s Unsolved Murder After 21 Years

Mumbai: The Press Club of Mumbai hosted a press conference to highlight the long-unresolved murder case of Dr. Asha Goel, a distinguished obstetrician and gynecologist who was brutally killed on August 22, 2003, while visiting Mumbai.

Dr. Goel’s daughter, Rashmi Goel, has written an urgent letter to Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Devendra Fadnavis, urging his immediate intervention in the delayed trial. Despite compelling evidence—including DNA matches, forensic reports, and even a confession—the case remains unresolved after 21 years.

Rashmi Goel, a professor of Criminal Law at the University of Denver, expressed deep frustration over the lack of progress, stating: "We have waited far too long, and our patience has worn thin. My mother dedicated her life to healing others, yet justice for her brutal murder remains out of reach. We urge the Chief Minister to step in and ensure that this case finally moves forward. India cannot afford to be seen as a nation where even the strongest evidence fails to convict murderers."

Dr. Goel was a highly respected medical professional known for her dedication to women’s healthcare. Born in Mathura in 1940, she pursued her medical education in Mumbai before moving to Canada, where she became a leading figure in obstetrics and gynecology. Her tragic murder shocked both India and Canada, yet her killers remain unpunished.

The press conference emphasized that this prolonged legal delay is not just a personal tragedy for the Goel family but a critical concern for India’s justice system. The family remains determined to pursue every possible avenue until justice is served.

With international attention on the case and overwhelming evidence available, the call for action is louder than ever. Will Maharashtra’s leadership finally deliver long-overdue justice?
