Goodknight Survey Reveals Sleep Disturbances and Mosquito-Borne Diseases Impacting Families in India
Mumbai: A recent survey commissioned by "Goodknight", India’s leading household insecticide brand from 'Godrej Consumer Products Ltd' (GCPL), has unveiled alarming insights about the effects of sleep disturbances in Indian households, especially concerning children. The survey, titled ‘One Mosquito, Countless Threats’, revealed that 87% of Indians believe sleep disturbances are directly affecting the health and well-being of their families. The survey, conducted by market research firm YouGov, sheds light on the growing concern surrounding mosquito-borne diseases, especially as World Malaria Day (April 25) approaches.
According to the study, sleep deprivation has become a critical issue in Indian homes, with adults losing up to 2 hours of sleep each night and children missing almost 4 hours of their recommended rest. This sleep deficit is contributing to weakened immunity, increased stress levels, and heightened vulnerability to infections, including malaria and dengue.
The survey revealed that mosquitoes are among the top causes of sleep disruption, with nearly 60% of adults across age groups citing them as a key factor in their restless nights. For children, the issue is even more severe, as parents report mosquito bites and constant buzzing to be the primary cause of disrupted sleep, surpassing other stressors like illness or academic pressure.
The impact of mosquito-borne diseases goes beyond fatigue and health. Ashwin Moorthy, Chief Marketing Officer - India at GCPL, highlighted that over 40 million people in India suffer from mosquito-borne diseases annually, resulting in economic losses due to absenteeism from work and school, healthcare expenses, and reduced productivity. “To maintain the productivity of the Indian economy and keep the GDP score ticking, what is needed is a steady and healthy workforce. Addressing the rise of mosquito-borne diseases is a pragmatic solution,” he stated.
Dr. Kirti Sabnis, Infectious Disease Specialist at Fortis Hospital, Mulund, Mumbai, stressed the urgent need to safeguard against mosquito-borne diseases. She pointed out that a single mosquito can transmit life-threatening diseases like dengue and malaria, compromising both the immune system and overall health. “Safeguarding against mosquito-borne diseases is a collective duty we owe to ourselves and our communities,” she emphasized.
Goodknight has long been at the forefront of developing innovative mosquito repellent solutions, including the Flash vaporiser, incense sticks, and Advanced Fast Card. In response to the dangers posed by illegal and unregulated repellents, GCPL has introduced ‘Renofluthrin’, India’s first indigenously developed and patented molecule for mosquito control. The Goodknight Flash Liquid Vaporiser featuring Renofluthrin is 2X more effective than any other registered liquid vaporiser available in India, ensuring enhanced protection against mosquitoes.
As Goodknight continues to innovate and educate families, the brand remains steadfast in its mission to protect against mosquito-borne diseases and ensure better sleep and health for Indian families.
