Navneet Education Launches India’s First Colour Blindness Detection Books, Promoting Inclusive Early Learning
Mumbai: "Navneet Education", a pioneer in India’s educational publishing space, has unveiled a revolutionary initiative — 'Colour Blindness Detection Books' — designed to address one of the most undiagnosed and misunderstood learning challenges in children: Colour Vision Deficiency (CVD).
These innovative books subtly integrate Ishihara-style tests into early learning illustrations. While teaching basic concepts, they simultaneously screen for colour blindness, allowing teachers and parents to identify the condition early—often before it affects the child’s academic confidence or performance.
India is estimated to have 10 million children with colour vision deficiency, most of whom remain undiagnosed for years.
“It doesn’t visibly disrupt learning at first, but over time, it affects a child’s confidence and participation in class,” shared Dr. Malgi, a leading ophthalmologist involved in the project.
A UNESCO report highlights that over 30% of learning difficulties go undiagnosed in early years, underlining the need for integrated screening tools in education.
“It’s rare to find a solution that’s so seamless and necessary,” said Rakesh Menon, Chief Creative Officer at FCB Interface. By weaving the screening process into everyday learning materials, Navneet eliminates the need for separate diagnostic tests, making detection natural, non-intrusive, and accessible.
“As a publisher impacting millions of young minds, it is our responsibility to foster inclusive learning,” said Devish Gala, Director of Branding, Marketing & Sales, Navneet Education. “Colour should never be a barrier to understanding or participation,” he added.
Subjects like science, math, and geography heavily rely on colour-coded materials. Without knowing they are colour blind, children often face confusion, misinterpretation, and even emotional stress. Early detection, as enabled by these books, empowers educators to offer tailored support and alternative strategies.
Navneet’s initiative is not just a publishing innovation—it’s a paradigm shift in inclusive education. It combines empathy, design, and science to ensure that all children, regardless of how they perceive colour, get a fair chance to succeed.
