Sense India Raises Awareness for Deafblindness on International Women's Day

 

Mumbai: “Sense India”, a pioneering national-level organization dedicated to empowering individuals facing deafblindness and multiple disabilities, held a transformative evening at The Sofitel Hotel, BKC, Mumbai. The event served as a platform to showcase Sense India's impactful work and raise awareness and resources to further their mission across India.

With a focus on women and girls with deafblindness and multiple disabilities, the event was especially significant as it coincided with ‘International Women’s Day’ on March 8th. Recognizing the unique challenges faced by this marginalized group, ‘Sense India’ highlighted its interventions in crucial areas such as sexual and reproductive health, mental health, and education support.

Central to the evening was the launch of an exclusive Coffee table Book titled ‘Senses Lost and Found- Inspiring Stories’. This compelling compilation of short stories chronicles the remarkable journeys of children and adults with deafblindness, showcasing the pivotal role played by 'Sense India' over the last 26 years. The premiere of the short film ‘We to Exist’ further underscored Sense India's impactful work and its profound impact on individuals' lives.

Akhil Paul, Executive Director of Sense India, emphasized the urgent need to address the double discrimination faced by women and girls with disabilities. He underscored Sense India’s commitment to providing essential support and resources to enhance their well-being and empower them to lead dignified lives.

Moreover, the event aimed to position 'Sense India' as a recognizable force within the development sector and initiate meaningful dialogues with stakeholders, decision-makers, and high net-worth individuals (HNIs). By fostering partnerships and cultivating long-term champions, 'Sense India' aims to amplify its nationwide efforts in supporting persons with deafblindness and multiple disabilities.

Sense India's expertise in deafblind communication, mobility, accessible information, assistive devices, and rehabilitation underscores its holistic approach to addressing the complex needs of individuals with deafblindness and multiple disabilities. Through technical assistance to partner NGOs and direct training initiatives, Sense India continues to drive positive change and create inclusive spaces for individuals with disabilities across India.
