Shreya Ghoshal and Sunidhi Chauhan Sing for India’s Period Song in Whisper Campaign

Mumbai: "Whisper", India's leading feminine-care brand from 'Procter & Gamble', has made history by launching the nation's own Period Song, featuring renowned musicians Shreya Ghoshal and Sunidhi Chauhan. The launch coincides with World Menstrual Hygiene Day and is part of Whisper's fifth edition of the Keep Girls in School movement, which aims to educate and empower young girls about menstruation.

Both Ghoshal and Chauhan have created their own versions of the Period Song, which they performed to school children, who then joined them in singing and dancing along. This initiative aims to break societal taboos and educate girls about the early onset of menstruation, which can occur as early as age 8. The catchy tune with its educative lyrics is intended to normalize periods as a sign of health and prevent school dropouts.

Sunidhi Chauhan expressed her excitement about the project, emphasizing the importance of reaching every citizen of India to empower young girls. She highlighted the shocking fact that girls are getting their periods as early as 8 years old, making Whisper’s period song crucial in breaking societal taboos and educating girls early to prevent school dropouts.

Shreya Ghoshal shared her honor in lending her voice to Whisper's period song, stressing the need for proper period education to prepare young girls and remove fear. She mentioned that the song, created in multiple languages, aims to become a national anthem for menstrual awareness.

Studies indicate that one in five girls is at risk of dropping out of school due to a lack of period education and products. Whisper’s Keep Girls in School program has been instrumental in normalizing periods, providing education, and distributing sanitary pads to over 100 million girls and women. The program conducts period education sessions in over 50,000 schools annually.

The song's mukhda, "Periods Ka Matlab Healthy Hai aap", sung by Ghoshal in eight different languages, aims to resonate across the nation. Composed and directed by Aman Pant, the song uses music as a powerful tool to educate both young girls and boys about periods, promoting the message that menstruation is a sign of health and strength.
