Malabar Group Drives Women Empowerment with Scholarships for 21,000 Girl Students

 

Mumbai: The “Malabar Group”, a prominent Indian business conglomerate and parent company of ‘Malabar Gold & Diamonds’, has officially announced its “National Scholarship Programme for 2024” during an event held at the Bharat Diamond Bourse in BKC, Mumbai. The initiative was inaugurated by Shri Piyush Goyal, Honourable Minister of Commerce & Industry, and reflects the Group's ongoing commitment to supporting girls' education across India.

This year, the scholarship programme has allocated ₹16 crores to assist over 21,000 girl students nationwide. The event was attended by the Group’s leadership, including MP Ahammed (Chairman of Malabar Group), Asher O (MD - India Operations), Abdul Salam K P (Vice-Chairman), Nishad AK (Executive Director), and Shaunak Parikh (Director of Mahendra Brothers).

Chairman MP Ahammed emphasized the transformative power of education, stating, “Education is the most powerful tool to change the world. Our scholarship programme is a direct reflection of Malabar Group’s deep-rooted belief that education unlocks opportunities and transforms lives. We are committed to removing barriers for young girls so they can fulfill their educational aspirations and contribute meaningfully to society.”

Since its establishment, the Malabar Group has been dedicated to inclusive growth through various social welfare initiatives. The 'Malabar Charitable Trust' (MCT) was founded in 1999 to organize and expand these efforts. The Group allocates 5% of its profits to CSR initiatives encompassing education, healthcare, environmental sustainability, and poverty alleviation, with a focus on empowering marginalized communities.

Launched in 2007, the Malabar National Scholarship Programme has invested over ₹60 crores, benefiting more than 95,000 girl students across India. This initiative aims to uplift not just individuals but entire communities, ensuring future generations have the necessary tools for social and economic progress.

Alongside the scholarship programme, the Malabar Group is also engaged in the Hunger-Free World Project, which provides nutritious meals to underprivileged individuals across India. Currently, the project distributes 50,000 food packets daily in 80 cities across 16 states. In addition, it supplies 10,000 food packets daily to school students in Zambia, with plans to expand the project to serve 100,000 people at 200 centers.

Furthermore, the Group has initiated the Grandma Home project, offering free, fully equipped accommodation for destitute women. Currently operational in Bengaluru and Hyderabad, there are plans for expansion into major cities including Chennai, Kolkata, Delhi, and Mumbai.

The Malabar Group's CSR initiatives also include medical aid for the underprivileged, housing construction support, and financial assistance for the marriages of women in need. To date, the Group has invested over ₹263 crore in various social responsibility projects, illustrating its dedication to sustainable development.
