Mumbai: “Mahanagar Gas Limited” (MGL), a leading City Gas Distribution company in India, has relaunched its “MGL Sahayogi” initiative to ensure safety and prevent accidental damage to gas pipelines. The campaign introduces a new exclusive helpline number: 1800 2100 2100, encouraging Mumbai residents to report unsafe or unplanned digging activities in their neighborhoods.
Veteran actor Shri Shivaji Satam, famous for his iconic role in CID, is the face of the campaign. His involvement is expected to boost awareness and vigilance among citizens regarding the importance of protecting gas pipelines.
“As I always say, ‘Kuch toh gadbad hai’, and with digging, the stakes are too high. But with the ‘MGL Sahayogi’ initiative, we have the power to prevent that danger before it even starts,” said Satam. He urged residents to take proactive steps, emphasizing that every call to the helpline contributes to public safety.
Frequent digging due to infrastructure development poses a risk to underground gas pipelines, potentially causing gas leaks, fire hazards, and interruptions in supply. The ‘MGL Sahayogi’ initiative aims to mitigate these risks by empowering citizens to report such activities.
MGL's helpline ensures swift action to prevent damage, maintaining uninterrupted gas supplies to homes and CNG stations.
Shri Ashu Shinghal, Managing Director of Mahanagar Gas Limited, said: “Ensuring safe and uninterrupted gas supply for our esteemed customers is our top priority. We are thrilled to have Mr. Shivaji Satam as the face of this campaign. His popularity will inspire people to be more vigilant for their safety and the city’s well-being.”
At the campaign’s relaunch event, MGL honored individuals who actively contributed to pipeline safety by reporting unsafe digging activities:

- Bhuminathan Chinnasami Kounder (Goregaon East)
