Mumbai: On the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the 'State Bank of India' (SBI) honored India’s Paralympic heroes from the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games in a grand felicitation ceremony. The event celebrated the unprecedented achievements of 29 medalists who propelled India to its best-ever 18th-place finish at the Paralympics.
During the ceremony, SBI presented cheques to the Paralympic medalists, acknowledging their extraordinary performances on the global stage.
CS Setty, Chairman of SBI, lauded the athletes: “India’s performance at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games is a testament to the unyielding determination and resilience of these athletes. Their success is an inspiration to millions, breaking barriers and showcasing the power of perseverance. SBI is proud to support these champions and remains committed to fostering an inclusive and thriving ecosystem for Indian sports.”
India’s Paralympic contingent delivered a stellar performance, earning 29 medals across categories:
Gold: Harvinder Singh, Sumit Antil, Dharambir, Praveen Kumar, Navdeep Singh, Nitesh Kumar, Avani Lekhara
Silver: Nishad Kumar, Yogesh Kanthuniya, Sharad Kumar, Ajeet Singh, Sachin Khilari, Pranav Soorma, Thulasimathi Murugesan, Suhas Yathiraj, Manish Narwal
Bronze: Sheetal Devi, Rakesh Kumar, Preethi Pal, Deepthi Jeevanji, Mariyappan Thangavelu, Sundar Singh Gurjar, Hokato Hotozhe Sema, Simran Sharma, Manisha Ramadass, Nithya Sre Sivan, Kapil Parmar, Mona Agarwal, Rubina Francis.
In addition to celebrating the athletes, SBI announced a collaboration with the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) as part of its CSR initiatives for FY 2024-25. Through this partnership, SBI aims to provide assistive devices to 9,000 Divyangjan across 20 locations in India.
The initiative underscores SBI's commitment to promoting inclusivity and empowering individuals with disabilities.
