India Brings Back 18 Nationals from Libya Through MEA’s Efforts

New Delhi: In a major relief effort, 18 Indian nationals stranded in Benghazi, Libya, have been successfully repatriated through the concerted efforts of the Indian Embassy in Libya and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). These individuals had been stuck in the country for several weeks due to security concerns.

Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the MEA, confirmed the development via a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating: "The Embassy of India in Libya facilitated the return of 18 Indian nationals from Benghazi, Libya."

The Indian Embassy worked closely with local Libyan authorities to ensure the safety of the stranded individuals. They also assisted in securing the necessary travel documents and authorizations for their smooth return to India.

The stranded individuals had traveled to Libya with employment opportunities, but found themselves in distressing circumstances. The MEA had been closely monitoring their situation, maintaining constant communication to facilitate their safe return. Three individuals from the same group had already returned to India earlier in October 2024.

Expressing gratitude for Libya’s swift cooperation, Jaiswal added: "We thank the Libyan authorities for their support and cooperation."

He reaffirmed that the Indian government remains committed to ensuring the safety and welfare of all Indian nationals abroad, especially in crisis situations.

This repatriation underscores India’s strong diplomatic efforts in assisting citizens facing hardships in foreign countries.
