Jalandhar: Lovely Professional University (LPU) celebrated the 12th International Day of Yoga with a grand gathering of more than 12,000 students, faculty members, staff, and public representatives, making it one of the largest yoga events held in Punjab. The celebration was attended by Nitin Nabin, National President of the Bharatiya Janata Party, as the Chief Guest, who participated in the mass yoga session alongside Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Founder Chancellor of LPU.
Held under the global theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing”, the event emphasized yoga’s importance in promoting physical fitness, mental well-being, and a healthier lifestyle across all age groups. The celebration was uniquely organized around the “12-12-12” theme, marking 12 years of the International Day of Yoga, 12 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s global yoga movement, and participation from over 12,000 individuals.

He said the dream of a developed India can only be realized through the collective efforts of citizens, especially the younger generation, who will play a pivotal role in shaping the nation’s future.
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call of “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan, Jai Vigyan, Jai Anusandhan”, given from the LPU campus, Nabin stated that today’s youth are embracing the spirit of research and innovation and contributing significantly to national development. He stressed the need for progress across research, healthcare, technology, and public service while also urging students to take a leading role in combating drug abuse and promoting a healthy society.
Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal, Founder Chancellor of LPU and Member of Parliament, highlighted how the International Day of Yoga has evolved into a global movement under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, with countries around the world embracing India’s ancient wellness tradition. He emphasized that the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 can be achieved by combining modern technologies such as Artificial Intelligence with India’s timeless wisdom embodied in yoga.
Speaking about LPU’s achievements in yoga, Dr. Mittal noted that the university’s students recently won 12 gold medals at the inaugural World Yogasana Championship, contributing significantly to India’s overall tally of 102 gold medals. On the occasion, he also announced the launch of the ‘NAMO Yoga Chair’ at LPU, aimed at promoting advanced research and academic excellence in yoga studies.

One of the major highlights of the celebration was the creation of large-scale human formations depicting the Map of India, the sacred ‘ॐ’ symbol, and the numerals ‘12’ and ‘2047’. While ‘12’ represented the 12th International Day of Yoga, ‘2047’ symbolized India’s aspiration to become a developed nation by the centenary year of Independence.
Aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, LPU also launched the ‘LPU Time Capsule’ initiative during the event. Participants recorded messages, dreams, and pledges for a healthier, stronger, and more prosperous India. These messages will be preserved in a time capsule scheduled to be opened in 2047 during the celebrations marking 100 years of India’s Independence.
The event showcased yoga as not only a practice for personal wellness but also as a powerful tool for unity, nation-building, and collective progress toward a healthier and more developed India.
